hackertube karpathy

Overview

HackerTube is a browser-based discovery tool for YouTube videos repeatedly discussed on Hacker News. Prompted into existence by Karpathy, it helps developers find technical talks and learners explore lectures, interviews and documentaries.

Key Features

• Semantic search finds videos by subject, including talks without the exact search words in their titles.
• Topic browsing organizes the collection into 150 topics across 16 areas, with playlists and a long-video view.
• Claude-written cards summarize videos and explain why HN commenters value them.
• Video pages show original HN comments with links to the source discussions.
• Likes influence the Home feed; Watch later and History keep track of viewing choices in the current browser.

How It Works

1. Enter a topic in Search, or open Categories or a playlist.
2. Select a video and review its summary, topic labels and HN discussion.
3. Play through the YouTube embed or follow the YouTube link; save it to Watch later if needed.

Use Cases

• Developers can locate conference talks about languages, compilers and software design.
• Curious viewers can discover science lectures and documentaries recommended across HN discussions.

Pricing and Availability

The website is accessible without an account and publishes no paid plan. Likes, viewing history and saved videos stay in the current browser. Playback uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed.
